230 Fifth

On the roof of a building near the Flat Iron one can find 230 Fifth, the same place I spotted in my previous post. This place is tricky on the wallet, you've gotta show up early if you want to get a seat, and as it gets later the view of the city makes it difficult not to stay and order another highly marked up drink. That's how over the course of 3 hours I spent 100 bucks on wine and a plate of fish and chips. The view and atmosphere here are well worth a visit, however next time I come here I'm bringing a flask along with me.

Empire State Building

Today was Empire State Building day, however before we could start on our tourist activities for the day, Mr J had to go pick up a cracked iphone he found on craigslist. We headed up to the diamond district on 47th street and while J met up with this shady phone/diamond dealer, I searched for some breakfast. I found a cheep Italian place called Nino's 46 one street down and sat down to order at the bar. My 8 dollar chicken parmesan sandwich was served up in about 5 minutes, allowing me to scarf it down and meet back up with Mr J right away.

Guggenheim Museum

Today was my Guggenheim museum day. I don't have a particular interest in art, however it was on my list of things to accomplish while in New York. I started my day taking the subway up to Columbus Circle with no idea of where the Guggenheim was exactly, all I really knew was that it was probably north of my hotel. Since I hadn't eaten breakfast, I searched for some food as soon as I got off the subway. A couple blocks up I found a cramped little sandwich shop called Bread Soul Cafe. Here I got a chicken wrap for 8 bucks which was pretty tasty and turned out to be crucial to have enough energy for my walk.

Le Bain

On our first night we wanted to check out a rooftop bar, we read that the standard had something of this sort, so we rode the subway west. Upon arriving in the meatpacking district, we witnessed an argument between a chick and her cab driver. The lady was screaming about her change causing a scene in front of the bar she was being dropped of at, but the cab driver acted swiftly to end the commotion by punching her to the ground.

After a block or so of walking we found the Standard and made our way up to the top floor. My dress wasn't up to code, so Mr. J approached first with a little act, chatting up the Hostess. By the time I approached he had won them over and they were lenient about the dress code with me.

We sat down at the bar and had a couple drinks. Mr .J ordered a glass of wine without checking the price and got a $35 bill for it.  This place had a pretty nice view, however what we had read about was an open air rooftop, so we did some investigation and found out we were in "Top Of The Standard", but what we were looking for was "Le Bain".

Waiting for my hotel room in New York

I touched down at JFK this morning at 6am, with a bit of time to kill before I could gain access to my hotel room, I started walking. Apparently people in New York don't get out of bed till later, so I had a couple hours of roaming clear streets before it got crowded. I'm finally back at the hotel so here's the pics I got:
